Rangers: Mather, Stockbridge face calls to resign

PAUL Murray has called for Rangers chief executive Craig Mather to step down in the wake of yesterday’s Court of Session ruling which saw the club annual general meeting postponed.

Murray believes that Mather’s position is now untenable, along with that of finance director Brian Stockbridge.

The former director succeeded in having his name added to a list of nominees for directorship at Ibrox at court yesterday, after the Rangers board had attempted to block the move.

Murray said: “Craig and Brian have to seriously consider their positions because I think they are untenable.

As the power struggle for control of the League 1 club took its fresh twist, former director Murray revealed after the court hearing that he had recently rejected an offer from chief executive Craig Mather of a seat on the board because he refused to “ditch” allies such as Jim McColl.

Murray insisted that he does want a seat on the board, but now hopes a shareholder vote will secure it.

Murray, along with Scott Murdoch, Alex Wilson and Malcolm Murray, will now do battle with the current board at the rescheduled AGM with shareholders deciding on who should be in charge at the club.

No date has yet been set for the AGM, which must be held between 5 November and 30 December.
