Rangers EBT hearing postponed as top lawyer involved in car accident

A HEARING into the use of Employee Benefit Trusts by Rangers is likely to be deferred until next week.

Rod McKenzie, the Harper McLeod lawyer appointed to gather evidence against the Ibrox club by the independent commission established by the SPL, was involved in a car accident last week and has not yet recovered from his injuries.

Evidence of Rangers’ use of EBTs from 2001 to 2010 will be heard by the commission, as well as whether or not any payments made to playing staff should have been made explicit in their contracts.

SFA rules require all clubs to declare EBT payments made to players with respect to earnings related to football.

Since the investigation was launched on March 5, Rangers chief executive Charles Green has vowed to boycott the investigation, saying that the “SPL ,not its commission, has any legal power or authority over the club because it is not in the SPL.”
