Rangers confirm signing of 20y/o international star in time for Jablonec tie as 'easy decision' made

Right-back joins on loan with a conditional obligation to buy

Kosta Nedeljković has spoken of the "easy decision" to join Rangers after completing a season-long loan move from Aston Villa with a conditional obligation to buy.

The 20-year-old right-back becomes the 11th new arrival of the summer at Ibrox with the transfer set to become permanent for a reported £4million fee providing he makes a certain number of appearances.

Nedeljković, a Serbian international with 11 caps, joined Villa from Red Star Belgrade in an £8m transfer in January 2024, but has since managed only two starts and eight sub appearances for the Premier League club. His opportunities have been limited by a series of injury problems while he also spent time on loan at RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga.

He could make his Rangers debut against Jablonec in the first leg of the Conference League play-off at Ibrox on Thursday after being signed in time to be registered for the tie.

Speaking after joining Rangers, Nedeljković said: “I am very excited. Rangers is such a big club, a big family, and I am excited to join and help the team have success together.

“For me, it was an easy decision after meeting with the coach; I only wanted Rangers. It is a big opportunity and a big responsibility. I always try to be positive and work hard so I am ready to help the team.”

Nedeljković becomes the second Serbian international to join Rangers this summer following the arrival of Vanja Dragojević, who is also 20, from Partizan Belgrade last month.

Rangers manager Derek McInnes said: “Kosta is a talented young player who we are really pleased to bring to the club.

“He has already gained some valuable experience at a high level in England and Germany, as well as representing Serbia internationally. Kosta is an athletic and energetic full-back who is keen to get forward, but he also has a real desire to defend and compete, and he will further strengthen a key area for us.

"I look forward to welcoming Kosta to Rangers, and working with him moving forward."
