Rangers administration: Sir David Murray gives grudging thumbs up to Blue Knights

SIR David Murray stopped short of giving unequivocal backing to Paul Murray and the Blue Knights consortium who hope to take control of Rangers. But the former owner did say he was convinced his namesake had the club’s best interests in heart and, despite disagreements, he believed they remained on good terms.

“I think Paul Murray is a genuine Rangers fan. I don’t have a problem with Paul Murray at all. I hope he gets it – I hope the best person for the club gets it. I know Paul is disappointed what has happened, and he’s made that known to me. I accept that in the way it’s meant. But I hope there’s no ill feeling. I just hope somebody comes in and does it [buys the club]. I hope Paul can come up with it, I hope somebody else comes up with it.”

Having seen so many people’s hopes dashed by Whyte, Murray’s concern now is that any future takeover is based on realism. “I really am concerned that people’s hopes are built up, whether by white knight, Blue Knights or any knights,” he added. “I hope that people’s expectations are being controlled correctly.”
