Nicky Law in for the long haul with Rangers deal

Nicky Law has been brought to Rangers to help get the club to the top of Scottish football – but he plans on staying around when they are there.

Law has signed a three-year contract with the Irn-Bru Third Division champions which should see him return to the Scottish Premier League in his final year.

The 25-year-old has helped Motherwell to two top-three finishes in the SPL and played in both the Champions League and Europa League qualifiers.

The midfielder hopes to get back to those heights but he might have to extend his contract to taste European football at Ibrox.

However, he is determined to impress enough to make that reality.

Law said: “Obviously it’s for three years and if all goes to plan then I will at least get a year in the SPL with Rangers.

“But for me it was important to get my foot in the door. I’m here now and now it’s up to me to make sure that in three years’ time I’m here for a lot longer.

“It’s in my hands to make sure I am here when this club is competing in Europe again 
and for the SPL title, which it will do because it’s Rangers and one day they will be back there and I would love to be a part of that myself.”

Law and Dundee United striker Jon Daly both signed deals which will take effect from 1 September when Rangers’ transfer embargo is lifted.

Law claimed Rangers were too big to turn down after rejecting the chance to move back to England and he also admitted to being convinced by the enthusiasm of manager Ally McCoist.

The former Sheffield United and Rotherham player said: “His plans excited me and his plans for taking the club forward and hopefully back to where they belong, which is obviously the top end of the SPL and Europe.

“But he didn’t just say that that’s going to happen. We know how difficult it’s going to be. His words were ‘building blocks’, take it season by season. That’s all you can do.”
