Brown, who has been vocal in his opposition since Green became involved with Rangers, looks likely to be issued with a Notice of Complaint from compliance offer Vincent Lunny, for comments he made about the former Sheffield United chief.

The former Rangers youth coach said: “[Charles Green] is a clown and always has been.”

And referring to comments made by Green about Ally McCoist in The Sun - in which the former Ibrox chief suggested the Rangers boss needed to win the league and a cup due to his signings and budget - Brown added: “Green’s comments were a disgrace. If my own directors had said that about me, I would have taken every one of them by the throat.”

Compliance officer Lunny is believed to have decided that Brown has overstepped the mark with his comments about Green, and looks set to issue the notice - but the Dens Park gaffer will have a chance to defend himself.

The former Rangers star addressed fans outside Ibrox shortly after the club entered administration, and fronted a group looking to buy Green out not long after the Yorkshireman took control at Ibrox.
