Former Rangers stars Gavin Rae and Chris Burke have joined forces with Hull City defender Curtis Davis to set up designer label Seven One Zero.

Rae - currently captain of Scottish Championship leaders Dundee - said the brand’s name was inspired by his and Burke’s squad numbers.

Their range is set to go on sale in the next few weeks, with their designs being revealed through the company’s Twitter page.

Rae, 36, who has also starred with Aberdeen and Cardiff City in a career that saw him win 14 international caps, said today that he had grown close to Burke during their spell at Rangers.

He added that he and Burke, who plays for Birmingham City, had been planning to launch a business together for a number of months - and had now got Davis involved.

Rae said: “I’m close to retirement age now and I think you need a few options of things to do when you’re done.

“Getting involved in fashion is something I’ve been wanting to do for a while.

“I’ve always liked keeping an eye on new trends and trying to keep up to date with fashion.

“I’m also coaching, so who knows what will happen in the future, but I certainly don’t want to stop and just do nothing.”

He added: “It’s been going on in the background for some time and I’ve been dying to tell everyone.

“I’m really looking forward to working with Chris and Curtis.

“Chris is my best friend in football and it was through him that Curtis got involved.

“We were just chatting one day and it’s an idea we really liked, so we thought ‘let’s just give this a go’.

“We went for the name Seven One Zero because 10 is my squad number and Chris plays in the number seven jersey.

“We’re starting off with t-shirts and hopefully move on to polo shirts and so on.

“We have no specific market and we eventually want to end up supplying women’s and children’s clothes.

“The website will be running in the next two to three weeks, but we do have ambitions to get the clothes into shops.

“We’ve been in contact with a few shops already and we’ve had very positive reviews.”
