FC Emmen 0 - 1 Rangers: Daly off mark for Rangers

JON Daly scored his first Rangers goal as Ally McCoist’s men edged to a 1-0 victory over Dutch second division side FC Emmen.

His 49th-minute strike ensured his new club extended their pre-season winning run to five games ahead of the start of competitive action on Sunday when they face Albion Rovers in the first round of the Challenge Cup.

Daly’s strike came after a first half which saw Rangers take their time to get into gear. Indeed, after just four minutes, the home side showed what they were capabble of as Said Bakkati sent a fine 50-yard pass across the pitch to winger Quenten Martinus on the left. The Dutchman sent over a low cross to Landro Reseda, who was denied by a fine save from Cammy Bell. At the other end, Andy Little broke through on goal but his shot was palmed away by the Emmen goalkeeper and Lewis Macleod couldn’t make the most of the rebound from 18 yards out.

As the half wore on, Rangers came more and more into the game, with Daly’s aerial power causing Emmen problems. But it was his left foot which was decisive just after the break as he cleverly controlled Little’s cross from the left, beating his marker before driving home.

Little had a golden opportunity to make it 2-0 just two minutes later as he latched on to Richard Foster’s quick free-kick and rounded the keeper before hitting the side netting.
