The ex-England international, who played for Rangers between 1987 and 1989, was most recently assistant to Rene Muelensteen at Fulham, until his dismissal in February.

The Jordan Football Association announced he would be assisted by former Arsenal and Republic of Ireland forward Frank Stapleton.

Wilkins’ first match in charge of the Jordan team will be against Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur on 11 October.
