Easdale: Rangers ‘damaged’ by boardroom rows

The McGill’s Buses tycoon has released a statement in which he expressed his commitment to ensuring the club recover their place in the top flight of Scottish football.

His comments come just days after chief executive Craig Mather and non-executive director Bryan Smart resigned their positions - leaving just finance director Brian Stockbridge and Sandy Easdale’s brother James on the club’s plc board.

Mather stood down after losing a legal bid at the Court of Session to Paul Murray on Monday.

The former Blue Knight was granted an interdict postponing the club’s planned annual general meeting on October 24 following attempts by the current board to block the election of potential new directors in the shape of Murray, former chairman Malcolm Murray and allies Scott Murdoch and Alex Wilson.

In his statement, Sandy Easdale said: “In recent days there have been suggestions that I speak publicly to the media about my family’s involvement with Rangers Football Club.

“At this stage I do not think getting embroiled in incessant speculation is in the best interests of Rangers. I have no desire to criticise any individual or group and believe the constant tit for tat that we have seen recently is damaging the club.

“I am a committed investor and fan and want nothing other than to see Rangers continue its progress back to the top of Scottish football. As far as I am are concerned there is a business plan in place and I am certain the directors will do everything to ensure that it continues to be implemented.”

Rangers, who recently announced losses totalling £14.4million, must now hold their AGM before December 31.
