Danny Rohl refuses to go 'very dark' as Rangers boss addresses transfer deadline day hopes
Rangers reaction after goalless draw against Hibs at Easter Road
Rangers manager Danny Rohl remains hopeful of adding to his squad before Monday night’s transfer deadline with Cameron Archer still on the Ibrox club’s radar.
A 0-0 draw against Hibs, which ultimately saw Rangers surrender second place to Celtic, underlined their deficiencies and supported the need for another striker. Archer, a £15 million buy from Aston Villa when former Rangers manager Russell Martin was in charge at St Mary’s, is on standby if a loan deal can be agreed. He was left out of the Southampton squad for Saturday’s 2-0 win at Stoke City. The Ibrox club have also been linked with a move for Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Nadiri.
With Rangers now six points behind leaders Hearts, the stakes are high. But Rohl said he would be content if nothing happened before the deadline of 11pm on Monday. He said he “didn’t know yet” whether someone else might be coming in.

“First of all, we will see what happens tomorrow,” he said. “If something happens then I am happy. If not then I will carry on with my group.”
He said he had a “clear picture in my mind” when asked if the dropped points against Hibs showed he might need more than just one new addition. Rangers looked lacking in the creative department while Brazilian striker Danilo was absent amid reports of an imminent loan move to Dutch side NEC Nijmegen.
“I saw a group that was growing and growing together,” Rohl said. “And what I will not do today after this draw is to make everything very dark. I think this is also part of this race. It's an exciting one. We are still in the race. No one expected a couple of weeks ago we would be in this group (of contenders).”
Asked whether he felt the current squad has the quality to keep taking the fight to Hearts, Rohl stressed that was the task for him. If no new arrivals are brought in through the door, then the team will have to keep on doing what they have done in recent weeks. The draw with Hibs brings a run of six consecutive league wins to an end.
“It's my job to carry on with my group,” he said. “I think in the last couple of weeks, I worked hard with them. Find a way to win games in different ways. Being organised, keeping clean sheets. These are all things we need. In the end, the club will make the final decision tomorrow. What is on, what is not on. We can speak after that about where we are and what the result is. So far, we made three signings. I think it was a good start (to the transfer window). Now we will see when the deadline happens.”
