Danny Rohl has 'clear picture' of Rangers failings as he reveals what he learned from Falkirk stalemate

Rohl rues first league slip-up as Falkirk disappointed by 100-year miss

Danny Rohl admits some Rangers players are running out of opportunities to show they deserve to have a long-term future at the club.

Few in a light blue shirt enhanced their reputations in the pedestrian goalless draw with Falkirk at Ibrox that broke a run of four successive league victories since the German became manager.

Rohl insists he’s not yet running out of patience with his mis-firing squad but did reveal that he’s starting to learn which players he can rely on and which he can’t.

He said: “I never lose patience but the opportunities will be fewer [for some players] because it’s about form. Some players use it, some players can't use it, and then you look at which opportunities you have, and then you take the next one. This is football - it's about competition.

“In some positions, we have competition. In some positions, there's less competition because of injuries and something like this. Of course, you have to step up in areas, which is what I demand and expect from our players.

“We are disappointed with this performance but for me it's now week six or seven. I have a clear overview now, a clear picture of what we miss at the moment, and from this point we go forward.”

Rohl admitted he was disappointed with the lack of intensity around his team’s play as Rangers missed the chance to move up into third in the Premiership table.

He added: “When you see the results, the position and what could we do today, then you think, ‘Come on, guys, go out and bring the [intensity] on the pitch’.

“I spoke at half-time a little bit about this. I said, ‘Guys, in some moments [we are missing] conviction’, even with our pressing. You feel sometimes they are thinking too much about what is happening behind them. This is again a little bit the rollercoaster, the ups and downs in our game. You feel sometimes we drop back into old habits and this is again what we have to remove.

“We were not right today. I think even in the transition moments when I look back, there was a minimum of four or five situations where you have the feeling, ‘Oh, now we can really hurt them’, and then we turn back, or we don’t find the right teammate.

“Then it slows down the game and you cannot create much on the front foot with power to score, and then you feel it's tough to win.

“There’s disappointment in the result, of course, when you play at home and then you want to win these games, you want to try. I think there are reasons why we couldn't accelerate our game in some moments, in some good areas, but then our decision-making, finding the next free man, finding the right touch, is missing.”

Falkirk manager John McGlynn was almost disappointed that his players didn’t show greater intent and push for a first league victory at Ibrox for a century.

He said: “Falkirk’s not won here in 100 years. Normally you’d be delighted with coming away from here with a point. I’m not saying we deserved any more because we didn’t.

“But we just feel we could have played better and given ourselves more opportunities to perhaps take three points.”
