Club can expect SPL cash advance to fulfil fixtures

The Scottish Premier League board is prepared to advance Rangers at least part of the placement money due to them at the end of this season in order to help them complete their fixtures.

When Gretna sank into administration in March, 2008, they were only able to last until the end of the campaign because the governing body paid them upfront, thereby preventing the logistical nightmare of having to delete all their results from the record, a process which would have altered the shape of the league table.

No-one at Hampden is prepared to say so publicly, but privately it has been admitted that, the precedent having been set, Rangers can expect similar assistance if required.

The SPL will work with administrators Duff and Phelps in order to ensure that Rangers can fulfil all 38 of their fixtures.

It is also understood that some of the placement money destined for Ibrox during the summer could be used to help pay the outstanding debts owed by Rangers to fellow SPL members Dundee United, Dunfermline, Hearts and Inverness.
