Andy Goram: ‘I back Rangers fans’ boycott’

And the former Rangers and Motherwell goalkeeper believes current Ibrox manager Ally McCoist would echo his sentiments.

Writing in The Sun, Goram claims that Scottish football is already a laughing stock, and that the proposals for a 12-12-18 league set up are ‘simply ludicrous.’

Goram adds: “How many times do the powers that be want to punish Rangers?

“I thought in Scotland you could only be tried for the same crime once. Yet it seems there are many in this country who won’t be happy until my old club are trodden into the ground.”

The stopper alleges that the two leagues of 12 would be satisfied with the revamp, and the 17 teams competing with Rangers in the National league would be ‘rubbing their hands at the prospect of gate money from Gers.’

Goram has also called for Neil Doncaster and Stewart Regan to resign their positions, and claims that they are ‘just lurching from one crisis to another.’

The former Scotland international backed the recent fans’ boycott over the Scottish Cup game against Dundee United at Tannadice, and claims he would respect any fans who ‘decided to stay away next season if [Rangers] are to remain in the bottom tier.’

However, Goram admits he is against the idea of Rangers and Celtic reserves being included to ‘make up the numbers.’

He states: “I don’t agree the Old Firm reserves should be drafted in to make up the numbers,

“Clubs like Spartans in Edinburgh have been banging on the door for years.

“It’s just another example of the SPL and SFA trying to line their own pockets.”
