Pictures posted on social media appeared to show two individuals, one male and one female, getting a tour of the Govan stadium.

Although the photos are grainy, and don’t show the figures clearly, the couple bears more than a passing resemblance to Wilshere and his wife Andriani Michael.

The former Arsenal midfielder has been linked with Rangers since becoming a free agent in the summer and has been seen keeping his fitness up with a personal trainer.

Earlier this week there was a flury of debate about him joining Leeds United while he has also turned down a move to Australia.

Wilshere left West Ham in the summer and has been without a club since – but with Steven Davis abruptly leaving the Northern Ireland camp due to personal reasons and there being no word on what this might mean for the veteran’s club career, could the Gers bring in the 34-cap England internationalist as cover?

Steven Gerrard is well-stocked in midfield with Scott Arfield, Joe Aribo, Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara, and Bongani Zungu all able to play centrally along with Davis, but Wilshere can operate as a No,6, No.8, or as a No.10 and would be a versatile cog in the middle of the park.

Still just 28, the Stevenage-born midfielder is younger than Arfield and Davis, and ages with Jack and Zungu and could present a short-term option or a longer-term solution. Sources close to the player recently suggested that he would be open to joining Rangers if the chance arose.
