Celtic fans will only know too well that can happen, having seen Moussa Dembele leave for Lyon on the final day of the transfer window two summers ago.
What chances do the bookies give for the trio to depart?
Ryan Kent
There never seemed to be any indication that the winger could depart Rangers this summer. Then, all of a sudden, Leeds United approached the Ibrox club with a view to signing the former Liverpool starlet.
A £10million bid was rejected by Rangers. Marcelo Bielsa is a fan of Kent having tried to bring him to the club previously.
Leeds could rekindle interest with the Argentine still keen on adding a player who can operate wide or as a No.10.
There is a reported release clause in the contract the player signed having moved from Liverpool for £7million and Steven Gerrard has previously admitted a transfer decision could be taken out of his hands.
Bookies odds of a move: 9/2 to join Leeds United
Odsonne Edouard
The Frenchman has had reported interest from the English Premier League and his homeland. However, no substantial move has been forthcoming.

Edouard hasn’t quite hit the heights so far this season. Only two goals have been scored since his opening day hat-trick against Hamilton Academical.
Any move to Arsenal, who have been the team he has most frequently been linked with, appears to be unlikely with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having signed a new deal.
Bookies odds of a move: 3/1 to join Arsenal, 9/2 for Leicester City, 6/1 for Tottenham Hotspur
Alfredo Morelos
The Colombian has been linked with a raft of clubs during his time at Rangers and it appeared that Lille and Ligue 1 would be his destination.
A protracted transfer saga came to nothing with the French side moving for Jonathan David, leaving Morelos in the lurch somewhat.
He has worked himself back into the starting line-up at Rangers, netting four goals in his previous two outings.
Lille have not ruled out a return before the transfer window closes.
Bookies odds of a move: 4/1 to join Lille, 9/2 to Fiorentina
