Alfredo Morelos is a reported target for French side Lille.
The Rangers striker is on a shortlist of possible strikers the Ligue 1 club are keen on if their own hotshot departs, according to the Daily Mail.
Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen has been strongly linked with a move to Serie A giants Napoli in a huge £60million deal, less than a year after joining the club.
Lille, who narrowly missed out on the Champions League, are weighing up their options for potential replacements.
They have previously been keen on Morelos who has had other interest from Ligue 1, as well as an offer from Al Duhail of Qatari which was turned down with the player keen on staying in Europe.
Lillie are considering a move for £15million for the 24-year-old having reportedly had a €30 million bid for Red Bull Salzburg star Patson Daka rejected.
Morelos’ importance to Rangers appeared to grow on Wednesday evening following the injury to Jermain Defoe.
The severity of the injury is being assessed by the club but Steven Gerrard confirmed it could hasten the need to add more striking options to the team with Morelos and Defoe the only recognised first-team forwards.
"We don't know the extent of it yet," he said. “We know it's a hamstring but until we scan it, we won't know how long it will be.
"First and foremost we just need to stay calm and find out the extent of the injury.
"I went on record last week to say I'd like to add in that area in terms of having extra firepower so who knows? It might push us even further in that direction to try and get something done."
