Stuart McCall says ‘it’s only a matter of time’ before Rangers win the Scottish Premiership title – but highlighted the one negative of his former club’s season so far.

A lack of fans to share in the success.

Steven Gerrard’s team continued their imperious form that has seen them lose just once in 41 matches with a 4-1 win over Dundee United at Ibrox.

It wasn’t the most fluent of performances from the home side but it was more than enough to see off Micky Mellon’s team thanks to some stops by Allan McGregor at one end and goals from Ryan Kent, Ianis Hagi, Joe Aribo and Alfredo Morelos’ fortuitous fourth at the other.

And former midfielder McCall, who stepped into the dug-out for a spell in charge six years ago, could only rue the circumstances as his former club edged closer to the trophy.

"The only disappointment from Rangers’ point of view is there are no supporters in,” he told BBC Sportsound. “That’s across the country but to have such a successful season as they’re having and not to see an Ibrox rocking at this moment is probably the only damp point on it.

"Dundee United came and had a real go and Rangers got a little bit fortunate with a couple of deflections but thereafter Aribo’s fantastic goal and then Morelos’ – he deserved one for his work-rate but it was probably the luckiest he’ll ever get.

“It was a convincing victory in the end and it’s only a matter of time now before the title comes back to Rangers.”

Rangers are now 18 points ahead of Celtic, having played one game more.
