Five star save - Neil McCann pinpoints Allan McGregor's Stefan Klos-like technique

Allan McGregor made three crucial saves in the first half of Rangers’ SPFL Premiership match to keep Dundee United out – and his technique reminded Neil McCann of former team-mate Stefan Klos.

The German goalkeeper was Ibrox number one while McGregor progressed through the youth ranks but two saves from the 39-year-old in the first half to deny Lawrence Shankland and Louis Appere prompted the comparison from Rangers TV pundit McCann during his half-time analysis.

“He’s brave. Allan McGregor’s speed – he’s so quick – he spreads himself big in the five-point save that they talk about now in modern goalkeeping where they spread their arms and legs.

"It’s almost Klos-esque – he used to come out, spread himself and be prepared to take one in the face.

"It's the speed off the line to identify that Shankland has broken the Rangers line and that snuffs that out.”

As well as exhibiting the lesson learned from the former Ibrox number one, McGregor also showed off his own renowned technique when he beat away another drive from Appere shortly before Rangers took the lead.

Speaking on Rangers TV former Scotland coach Shelley Kerr added: “His timing for his age is brilliant – fitness levels, he’s still agile. When you’ve got a guy like that behind you that’s so secure it really helps you as a centre back.”

Goals at the other end from Ianis Hagi and Ryan Kent gave the home side the half-time advantage at Ibrox, with the chance to open up a short-term 18-point gap at the top of the Scottish Premiership over Celtic, who play Ross County in Dingwall this evening.
