On February 22, 2011 McCoist and Ibrox chief executive Martin Bain held court as a one-year rolling contract was announced for Rangers’ record goalscorer who would take over that summer.
McCoist described taking over from his mentor, who he had acted as assistant with since 2007, as “taking the mic from Frank Sinatra” – and spoke of his “absolute dream and privilege”.
