Rangers continued their march towards the Scottish Premiership title on Wednesday evening with a 1-0 win over St Johnstone thanks to Ianis Hagi’s strike.

It was one of six Premiership matches this midweek in what has been an eventful couple of days around the SPFL following the close of the transfer window on Monday.

The action picks up again from Friday evening with Hearts travelling to Ayr United before a host of games on Saturday and then Rangers’ clash with Hamilton on Sunday.

Hibs ace Ryan Porteous believes it is “flattering" that the club rejected a significant fee for the player this window. The centre-back was subject of a bid from English Championship side Millwall. Porteous admitted that he had conversations with boss Jack Ross and that there will be a time where he may have to move on. (Evening News)

Hearts will utilise the Irish transfer market again following the signing of midfielder Aaron McEneff. The 25-year-old joined for £175,000 on transfer deadline day. Manager Robbie Neilson believes it is a “great market” to tap into with players who can adapt quickly to the Scottish game. (Evening News)

St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson leapt to the defence of Rangers striker Kemar Roofe for a challenge on Murray Davidson. The Saints midfielder was subbed due to an injury sustained in a collision with Roofe. Boss Davidson said he didn’t think there was any malice in the challenge which has left his player a doubt for the Betfred Cup final with Livingston. (Various)

Celtic starlet Cameron Harper is on the verge of completing a move to New York Red Bulls. The MLS side have agreed a fee with the Parkhead side for the American forward. The 19-year-old, who Celtic were keen to keep, started in the match with Livingston last month when a raft of players were unavilable as they self-isolated. (Daily Record)

Hamilton Academical released a statement on social media confirming that a commentator contracted for the Hamilton v Ross County match would not be used again after describing going for a “jobby”, leaving some viewers bemused and irate. It read: “A contractor used by the club on summarising / co-commentary duties overstepped the mark this evening with a very poor attempt at humour. The club didn’t find this funny, and the person will not be used again. Our apologies for this.” (Various)

Celtic are to be boosted by the return of James Forrest to training. The winger has missed the last four months due to an ankle issue which required surgery. Boss Neil Lennon said: “He’s been out on the grass doing his rehab fitness work and the physios are confident he’ll be ready to join back in next week.” (Various)

Ex-Rangers ace Alan Hutton reckons Steven Gerrard "must be pulling his hair out" over Alfredo Morelos. The former right-back was reacting to the player’s three-match band for a clash with HIbs' Ryan Porteous. Hutton said: “There’s only so many times you can defend him and they tried at the start but now, it’s just so frustrating to watch. He’s just hurting himself and his team.” (Football Insider)
