And BBC Sportsound pundit Derek Ferguson said the stand-in defender had ‘a bit to go’ to take over the left-back mantle full-time, based on the showing in Paisley.

Discussing the foul that gave Jamie McGrath the chance to beat Allan McGregor and level from the spot five minutes before half-time, the former Rangers midfielder said: "It was slack play from Bassey in the left-back area and he just gets caught on the wrong side by Connolly on the blind side.

"Prior to that he’d been slack with a couple of balls and he’s not been quite at it. When you look at Barisic he’s top quality so I think he has a bit to go, the young man, to get up to those levels.”
