Nathan Patterson stepped off the bench to score and put Rangers ahead against Royal ANtwerp after 17 seconds of the second half in a remarkable turnaround for the right-back.

What a difference an hour makes. Fans were split pre-match over Steven Gerrard’s decision to include Bongani Zungu, Calvin Bassey and Patterson among the substitutes following their apology for breaching COVID protocols and self-isolating last week.

But the young Scotland under-21s defender’s impact was praised by fans for his key goal on his return to the team – as was the manager for including him.
