Steven Gerrard’s side had already splashed their way past Standard Liege in Belgium and Alfredo Morelos gave them a 1-0 win over Polish side Lech Poznan at Ibrox last week.
Tonight it was the turn of the top seeds in the section – Benfica – to host the SPFL Premiership leaders and the early evening kick-off didn’t disappoint.
A red card, six goals and a great Rangers performance either side of two blunders at the back was compulsive viewing. Here’s how the visitors rated in the enthralling draw.
Scale - 10: One of the best performances you've seen. 9: Outstanding. 8: Very good. 7: Good. 6: Average. 5: Poor, 4: Very poor. 3: A terrible day at the office. 2: Abysmal. 1: One of the worst performances you've seen.

5. Filip Helander - 5
Blundered at the start when he dithered and then misread the ball to allow the opener. Recovered and settled well afterwards but then at fault again for Benfica's two second half goals. Photo: Gualter Fatia - SNS Group

6. Steven Davis - 9
Not the brightest start but goodness when he turned it on, so did Rangers. Turned the tide on 19 minutes with the ball to Kent for the red card and dominated the midfield from then. Terrific for 70 minutes. Photo: Gualter Fatia - SNS Group

7. Ryan Jack - 7
Mucked in with the dirty work to allow Davis and Kamara to control the game and tick it over. Role in complementing that midfield can't be overlooked and covered Tavernier at times too with important defensive duties. Photo: Gualter Fatia - SNS Group

8. Joe Aribo - 6
Twisting legs and footwork had Benfica on the ropes when he had the ball, but didn't happen often enough to impact the game much that way. Should have scored the third with a header but chased down plenty from the front. Photo: Gualter Fatia - SNS Group
