'Announce Kamara contract', 'Bring on Man Utd' - Rangers fans react to group-winning victory over Lech Poznan

Cedric Itten, handed a rare start, put in a fine performance as the centre-forward and scored the opener while the Ibrox side comfortably saw off the Poles without ever really leaving first gear.

With Benfica and Standard Liege drawing in Belgium, the Gers topped the group and are now seeded for Monday’s draw – meaning they will avoid a nightmare tie against the big guns.

Supporters heaped praise on their side after the final whistle

Robbie Renwick tweeted: “Announce Kamara contract.”

Stuart Russell wrote: “Professional performance tonight, resting players whilst doing what needed to be done. Happy for Itten too, deserved a goal and now pushing Alfredo for the striker role.”

John Henderson added: “A battling performance, our team continues to give more than that, so proud. So happy for every bear tonight. We have suffered plenty, time to live it up.”

Joseph Noor said: “Well played Rangers. Congrats for topping the group. Excellent team effort. Difficult to single anyone out. Our guy Zungu had another good game. Did not put a foot wrong, only when he slipped. Played coolly, cautiously and intelligently after that. Mind of a good football player.”

Tex Thomson enthused: “Seven changes. Steven Gerrard's system is winning these games, good spread of goals too, our next manager should already be at the club working with Gerrard, he'll be a hard act to follow.”

One fan posting under the username Max Power wanted to know: “Well done on the win but why did the announcer in the stadium sound like he was playing a digeridoo?”

James Harrison summed up: “Very well done Rangers; some performance. Young Patterson was exceptional. Zungu class. Man of the match – big Ced. Brilliant Rangers.”

Bryan Mackay added: “Given the changes that is a brilliant result. Job very well done. So encouraging that."

Craig Farquhar stated: “Bring on Manchester United."
