Alfredo Morelos: Rangers injury boost after unexpected return from four month lay-off

Alfredo Morelos was a glaring omission from Rangers’ crucial run-in last season with the team chasing trophies on three fronts.

A thigh problem ended his season while on international duty with Colombia in March leading the striker to sit out the closing stages of the cinch Premiership title race as well as the Scottish Cup and Europa League finals.

With Kemar Roofe also struggling for fitness this pre-season Giovanni van Bronckhorst turned to Antonio Colak after signing the striker alternative from PAOK Salonika and the Croatian started both friendly matches with West Ham and Spurs last week, to take pole position for a place in the Premiership kick-off this weekend.

However Morelos has given the Ibrox coaching staff – and the watching fans at the club’s MyGers open training session on Monday – some food for thought and cause for optimism.

The Colombian emerged alongside the squad to take part in some ball-work drills on the pitch at Ibrox in the special session for supporters.
