He turned down an offer of a new contract in April and, with his current deal set to expire next summer, Rangers have decided to move him on.

An integral part of the squad during the Mark Warburton era, McKay has recently been frozen out by Rangers boss Pedro Caixinha, including being made to train with the under-20s team.

The 22-year-old will join up with his former boss at Forest. Warburton has returned to raid the Scottish top flight for the second time this summer after signing Hibs striker Jason Cummings for a fee reported to be around £1million.

The English Championship side have also been linked with a move for Rangers right-back James Tavernier.

McKay has made over 100 league appearances for Rangers and won his first Scotland cap in a 2016 friendly against France.
