Rangers will travel to Germany during the Ladbrokes Premiership winter break to face RB Leipzig in a glamour friendly tie.

The Bundesliga club, who are currently second to Bayern Munich in the German top flight, confirmed the fixture on their Twitter account.

The newly promoted side made a splash earlier this summer when they signed Scots international Oliver Burke for a reported £13m fee, making him the most expensive Scotland player of all time.

The game will take place on Sunday, 15 January at the Red Bull Arena. It will come the weekend before Rangers are due back in domestic action.

Mark Warburton previously stated his displeasure with the winter break, which will see top flight clubs take three weeks off following the conclusion of the New Years’ fixtures, including Rangers’ meeting with Celtic on Hogmanay.

The Rangers manager would much rather the break took place over the Christmas period rather than succeeding it, amid concerns top flight clubs could be caught cold when they return to action in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup on 21 January.

Warburton said in September: “Three weeks is very difficult but we’ll allow them five days off and we’ll try and find somewhere decent to travel to without too much expense hopefully.

“We’ll also need to try to find a game to play. I personally don’t get the break.

“It caused us a big problem before the cup final and I don’t know what we’re going to do with it.

“We could be playing Aberdeen, or someone like that, in the Scottish Cup (fourth round) on January 21.

“I haven’t seen the stats but I’m sure a lot of top-flight teams go out in that round when you have a winter break because they won’t be prepared for the games, whereas the Championship teams will have been playing.”
