Rangers' Martyn Waghorn '˜could miss rest of the season'

Rangers could be without striker Martyn Waghorn for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury.

The striker sustained the injury in Tuesday’s win over Kilmarnock in the Scottish Cup.

Rangers announced yesterday through a statement that the striker would not require surgery, but would be out a “number of weeks”.

Speculation had a timescale of six to eight weeks he’d be out of action, though Rangers have today said it could be a lot longer.

Waghorn will see a specialist in London about the injury. He will not require surgery and his return date will be dependent on his recovery.

It will be a huge blow for Rangers in their bid to secure a domestic treble of the Ladbrokes Championship, Petrofac Training Cup and William Hill Scottish Cup.

They currently lead Hibernian at the top of the second tier by eight points, though Hibs have a game in hand.

They face either Dundee or Dumbarton in the Scottish Cup quarter-finals, and Peterhead in the final of the Petrofac Training Cup.
