Rangers: Kirk Broadfoot could return from injury to face Valencia

RANGERS defender Kirk Broadfoot has been given a positive prognosis on his foot injury and could be passed fit to face Valencia in the Champions League Group C clash at Ibrox on Wednesday night.

Ibrox manager Walter Smith is hoping to have Broadfoot (pictured) at his disposal after the full-back missed the weekend's home win over Motherwell.

And Scans on his foot injury have revealed an improvement.

Broadfoot is seen by Smith as integral to the more defensive-minded formation he has chosen in Europe, but the veteran manager insists he has options.

"We have good news from the scan," Smith said. "He still has a little bit of bone bruising but nothing that should prevent him from training and playing so we will see how he is today after our training session.

"But certainly if he is not available for Wednesday's game he should be available for Sunday (against Celtic).

"If he is not fit it might cause us to have a rethink in terms of what we are going to do.

"But we are more hopeful of getting him now than we were the other day.

"Andy Webster is one option but we have Richard Foster as well and I could bring him in."
