Rangers: How they rated

Player by player ratings from last night's Champions League match between Rangers and Manchester United.

The Ibrox goalkeeper had surprisingly little to do in the first-half but what came his way he dealt with comfortably. Fine block from Carrick in second- half, and then Berbatov. Well beaten by Rooney's penalty.

Midfielder was deployed because of Rangers' injury woes at right back but this did not curb his attacking instincts. Got forward whenever he could.

Steven Whittaker 6/10

Moved inside to centre-half and looked fairly unflustered.

Kirk Broadfoot 8/10

Perhaps the stand-out for Rangers in the opening half. Blocked one shot from Rooney and even made his way forward when he could. Stood strong after interval, too.

David Weir 7/10

Charged with marshalling the defence and will have been surprised at the ease with which Barbatov and Rooney were contained in first-half. Battled manfully as things got trickier in second-half. Great clearance header from Berbatov.

Richard Foster 6/10

Entitled to think his season could get no more surreal when the on-loan Aberdeen player found himself up against Nani. Tracked him as best he could.

Steven Naismith 6/10

A source of hope for Rangers in an attacking sense and played in Miller after 42 minutes for Rangers' best chance. Also tracked back well but will regret the moment when he felled Fabio in the box.

Kyle Hutton 6/10

A night of nights for the teenager and inevitably displayed some nerves but was also pleasingly tidy with his distribution. Booked for clumsy tackle on Fabio.

Lee McCulloch 5/10

Given the task of helping Hutton out in the middle of the park but found the going tough.

Vladimir Weiss 7/10

Slovakian looked bright in the early stages and gave John O'Shea a problem or two. Final ball often a disappointment but gave Rangers some flair.

Kenny Miller 6/10

Handed two chances to give Rangers the lead in the first-half and took neither of them. Put a header wide and then saw Van der Sar block shot from tight angle.
