Rangers fans facing 20% rise in season ticket prices

Rangers fans will be looking at a season ticket price increase of around 20 per cent for their first season back in the Ladbrokes Premiership.

The club has decided to return prices to around the same cost of what they were when Rangers last competed in the top flight, season 2011/12.

It will mean a significant cost for some supporters but Rangers insist it’s a necessary evil as they look to compete with rivals Celtic in their first season back.

Chairman Dave King said in a club statement: “Income from season tickets has been the key factor in determining the quality of the squad available to the manager and will be again as we recruit additional players for next season and beyond.

“All proceeds of ticket sales are spent on the club’s football activities and, now that we are back in the Premiership, ticket prices have been adjusted to accord with that. However, they have been retained at the price level of five years ago when Rangers last competed in that league.

“I would like to thank every fan in advance for your support. It really is good to be back and competing where we belong.”

Fans representative Andy Kerr admitted some supporters would react against the increase, but that many would understand the reasons.

He told the Evening Times: “It’s like anything, if you increase, people are going to say, is it too much, it’s a bridge too far, and affordability is so important.

“But there is also the need to generate the sort of income that is needed to compete in going up a level.”
