Raith Rovers 2 - 1 Morton: Nacho Novo bags goal

NACHO Novo scored his first goal in Scottish football since May 2010 against the club which brought him to these shores 12 years ago but saw his thunder stolen by a dramatic late Gordon Smith winner for Raith Rovers.

Novo was easily Morton’s most potent threat against Rovers, for whom he scored 22 goals in the 2001-2 campaign, and he got his reward for a vibrant display by nodding in the goal which restored parity in an engaging encounter. The intervention of the former Dundee and Rangers favourite cancelled out a sumptuous opening goal by Kevin Moon. The 26-year-old converted a raking long pass into the box by Jason Thomson, showing impeccable technique to chip Nicolas Caraux.

Rovers restored their lead with the final kick of the game, with substitute Smith converting a low Callum Booth cross at the back post.

“I thought we were the better team, especially in the second half, but it is a cruel game for us at the moment,” said Morton assistant Mark McNally, whose side remain rooted to the bottom of the Championship.

“To score so late in the game is a massive credit to the team,” added Raith boss Grant Murray.
