Raith Rovers 0 - 2 Queen of the South: Doonhamers dispose of Raith

THE Doonhamers dumped Rovers with a goal in each half from Scott McLaughlin and sub Tom Brighton to earn a valuable three points.

Queens went in front in 19 minutes following a blunder by Raith keeper David McGurn, who spilled Allan Johnston’s cross. Kevin Smith laid the ball back for Scott McLaughlin to fire home a fierce, low shot through a crowded box from 15 yards.

Queens sub Brighton should have made it 2-0 from eight yards in 33 minutes, only to be denied by a terrific save by McGurn.

However, his save was eclipsed ten minutes from the interval by Queens goalkeeper Lee Robinson. He flung himself across to somehow scoop the ball off the line from a downward close-range header by John Baird.

McGurn made a magnificent save in 51 minutes as he flew across to the far post to block McLaughlin’s diving header.

However, he was beaten in 76 minutes following a terrific goalmouth scramble sparked by Johnston’s teasing corner on the left. Brighton eventually forced the ball over the line and into the middle of the net from a couple of yards.
