Queen of the South boss shocked by medal theft

Queen of the South player/ manager Allan Johnston ended his near 23-year wait to get a cup winner’s medal on Sunday, however his joy turned to
despair overnight when his car and award was stolen from the driveway of his house.

Johnston was an unused substitute in the Doonhamers’ penalty-kick success over Partick Thistle at the weekend to lift the Ramsdens Cup and the 18-times capped Scotland player picked up his first Cup prize after defeats in the Scottish Cup, the League Cup and the Ramsdens Cup earlier in his career.

The 39-year-old returned to his Bothwell home after a meal celebrating the Palmerston side’s win in Glasgow only to wake up in the morning and find that his car containing his kit bag where the medal was stored gone.

Johnston said: “I was brought crashing back to earth straight away. Not only was my car not there in the morning but whoever has taken it also has my kit-bag with my boots, my laptop with all our preparations stored in it and my medal.” It is a pretty brazen crime with Johnston saying: “The car is a silver Kia Sportage and has my name and my job as well as Borders Cars written on the side so people will notice it.”
