Preston Athletic 1-1 Tynecastle: Tynie can’t take advantage

Tynecastle came away with a point from the Pennypit, although they should have gone on to claim all three points
after the home side were
reduced to ten men early in the second half.

Preston edged a reasonably even first half. An 18th minute Dale O’Hara free kick called Jamie Newman into action, while at the other end, a Jamie Butler strike forced the Preston keeper into a diving save to claw the ball away from danger.

Sean Martin put Preston into the lead in the 37th minute after heading home Mark Cherrie’s cross, which was swung in deep from the right touchline.

Five minutes after the restart Preston were reduced to ten men after Gary Bennet picked up his second yellow card. Tynecastle were restricted to just one goal, however, when John Williams’ 68th minute free kick from 22 yards out cracked off the underside of the crossbar and fell into the net.
