Poland v Scotland: How Scotland players rated

A magnificent save from Lewandowski near the end ensured that Scotland took a deserved point from the match. Had a couple of uncomfortable fumbles in the first half, but could do nothing at either goal. 7/10

Alan Hutton

The right-back gifted the opening goal to Poland with a woeful touch when he should have gone for safety first, and was also exposed for the home team’s second. Beaten for pace at times in defence, but got forward well late in the game. 5

Russell Martin

The Norwich centre-half mopped up well as Poland threatened to overrun the visitors in midfield at times, standing his ground and showing a high degree of composure under pressure. 7

Gordon Greer

A stand-in for the injured Grant Hanley in central defence, he stood up well to the Poles’ physical challenge and formed a solid partnership with Martin. 7

Steven Whittaker

Drafted in on the left instead of his customary right-back berth, the Norwich player had a tough act to follow in Andrew Robertson. A poor early knockdown could have been punished, but he also got Hutton out of trouble later in the first half. 6

Scott Brown

The captain relished the battle in the engine room. Outmuscled by Lewandowski on occasion, he was also nutmegged by Mila late on, but played a vital role as Scotland held on for a point. 7

James Morrison

Not quite as impressive as he was against the more lightweight Georgians, but he competed well in the heart of midfield. 6

Shaun Maloney

Began the match in central midfield, and kept his composure to sidefoot home the equaliser from Anya’s intelligent pass. Had a shot saved after good work by Anya. 6

Steven Naismith

Began wide on the right and had a very quiet first half, but popped up in the right place with a superb touch to put his team 2-1 ahead. 6

Ikechi Anya

Set up the Maloney goal with an excellent low pass after expertly dragging down Fletcher’s crossfield ball. Passed a fitness test to play, and was causing problems for the Poles right to the end. 7

Steven Fletcher

The target man turned provider in the build-up to Maloney’s goal, delivering a superb diagonal ball to Anya deep on the left wing. Another mature and versatile performance. 7

SUBSTITUTES

Chris Martin

On for Naismith for the last 20 minutes, he kept the Polish defence busy with some robust play. 5

Darren Fletcher

Replaced his namesake Steven, coming on at the same time as Martin, and worked hard to prevent Poland from seizing control. 5
