Penalty denies Edinburgh victory over Preston

PRESTON'S Stewart twice went close to scoring early on while Thomson did well to deny City's Howat at close range. The City defence failed to clear a through ball in the tenth minute and Monteith was booked for blocking Wales's shot outside the box.

City opened the scoring on 21 minutes when McFarland went on a good run from the left before shooting past Thomson. Guthrie wasted a good chance to increase City's lead before Monteith did well to save a Miller header.

Thomson pulled off a good save from Howat at close range before Preston equalised when Monteith brought down Miller in the box and Manson converted the spot kick.

In the 60th minute Stenhouse went close, beating Thomson only for his shot to be cleared off the line while Preston's Miller went close, heading the ball off the bar following McColl's free kick. Late on, Leighfield bravely blocked a stinging McFarland shot before Scott cleared a header from a trialist off the line.
