Partick Thistle 2-0 Hamilton

TWO goals of genuine quality were enough to illuminate this encounter, give Thistle a deserved three points and ensure Accies continue to sit uncomfortably close to being sucked into a relegation fight.

On a threadbare playing surface better suited to arable farming than playing football, this was never going to be a classic. But amidst the bobbles and the shinners Kris Doolan gave Thistle an 18th-minute lead with a clinical finish, having turned his marker on a sixpence. Perhaps as a result of being more accustomed to the horrendous underfoot conditions it was the home team who carved out the better of the chances, with only a series of brave blocks from Accies defenders keeping the former Firhill tenants competitive at the break.

Accies had been a major disappointment, however they could have been level five minutes after the restart had Grant Anderson not been denied by a flying stop from Thistle goalie Scott Fox.

Had Accies levelled it would have been rough justice on Thistle who had been the better team throughout and to prove the point they sealed the win courtesy of a quite brilliant solo goal from Chris Erskine, who danced through the Accies defence before coolly slotting home.
