Olivier Kapo hits out after Celtic contract terminated

OLIVIER Kapo has hit out at Celtic after the club terminated his contract, despite only signing him in November.

In a French blog post, Kapo accused Celtic of offering him a revised deal which would have seen the 30-year-old's agreed pay reduced by two-thirds.

Kapo claims the contract would have run until the end of the season, one year less than his original deal, which was subject to a three-month probation, would have been.

He also says that, whilst Neil Lennon wanted to keep the former French international in Glasgow, he did not have the "executive direction and financial management" to do so.

Kapo made two appearances for Celtic after signing an 18-month contract following his exit from Wigan in the summer.

The winger claims that he was not given a fair chance to prove his worth to Celtic as a result of weather-related postponements and a two-week injury.

According to Celtic, a clause in the former Juventus player's contract, which allowed the deal to be terminated, was excercised after the club felt he had not performed to a high enough standard.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon said in a statement: "Olivier Kapo signed a contract with the club which allowed us to terminate on January 10, 2011.

"Celtic took this option to terminate as we felt he had not done enough to justify a longer-term contract.

"We were willing to look at an extension to this short term contract with Olivier. However, he was not willing to accept these terms."
