Newcastle’s Ayoze Perez late show stuns Tottenham

Spurs, who could have gone above Manchester United into the top four, went ahead on 39 minutes when Eric Dier headed in Christian Eriksen’s corner.

The visitors – scrapping for points at the other end of the table, but boosted by last weekend’s 2-0 win over Liverpool – regrouped following the interval. It was 1-1 on 74 minutes when substitute Aleksandar Mitrovic scored from close range after Hugo Lloris had saved Chancel Mbemba’s header following a free-kick. And, Newcastle stole all three points in stoppage time when Perez got ahead of the Spurs backline before beating Lloris at the near post with a low, angled drive to lift his side out of the relegation zone.

There was also late drama at Anfield, where Liverpool scored a stoppage-time equaliser to rescue a 2-2 draw with West Brom.

The Reds had swept into the lead on 21 minutes when captain Jordan Henderson, making his first league start since August, surged into the box to get on the end of a downward header from Adam Lallana.

However, West Brom were soon level when Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet flapped at a corner, and Baggies defender Craig Dawson lashed the loose ball into the net.

The visitors thought they had gone ahead just before half-time when Jonas Olsson converted a free-kick from Craig Gardner, but the effort was eventually ruled out for a delayed offside flag.

Olsson had the ball in the net again on 73 minutes, and this time the goal did stand, after the defender headed in a  corner from Chris Brunt.

However, Liverpool levelled when, in the fifth minute of injury time, Baggies keeper Boaz Myhill was beaten as a speculative 25-yard shot from Divock Origi deflected up off Gareth McAuley and looped into the far corner.
