New faces boost Livi’s campaign

CAPTAIN Liam Fox is delighted Livingston managed to add some extra faces at the end of the transfer window – and hopes the additional quality will boost John Hughes’ side as they prepare to take on top-of-the-table Partick Thistle.

The Jags visit West Lothian in rampant form before Yogi’s men face second-placed Dunfermline, but Fox insists Livi can also take heart from their fine 2-1 win at Falkirk last time out.

As the midfielder continues to progress with his comeback from long-term injury, the
Lions captain is hopeful going into the double header against the league’s top two. Fox said: “We managed to add Callum Booth and Jesus Garcia Tena and they’ve both settled in well. It’s also good for us to add some more quality to the squad for the season ahead.

“Partick are on a fantastic run of form with four wins out of four in the league and they’ll be really high on confidence at the minute.

“In saying that, we had a great result at Falkirk in our last match with Tony [Andreu] scoring a goal worthy of winning any game, so we can take confidence from that result against a good Falkirk side.

“I thought we did well with ten men. Sometimes in those situations everyone finds an extra five or ten per cent, and it was a massive result for us to get all three points in those circumstances.”

Fox reckons the home defeat of Dumbarton in the League Cup has also boosted the mood around Almondvale.

He said: “With cup games it’s all about getting through by whatever means are necessary and we did that.

“It was good to get a few goals and a win at home. It gives everyone a wee boost.

“It also rewarded us with a tie at Hearts, but we have to focus on the league for the time being. We know how difficult and important these games are, starting with tomorrow.

“Hopefully we’ll give Thistle a good match and it has the makings of a good game.”
