Morton appoint Jim Duffy as new manager

Morton have appointed Clyde manager and their former player Jim Duffy as their new boss just a fortnight after Kenny Shiels resigned from the Cappielow hot seat in the wake of relegation and a 10-2 defeat from Hamilton Accies.

Former Falkirk, Dundee, Hibs and Brechin City boss Duffy, who was the Scottish Footballer of the Year in 1985 whilst in a player with the Cappielow side, came close to the Cappielow job in 2008 however he lost out at that time to David Irons.

Duffy resigned from Clyde yesterday afternoon after a near three year stint that saw him guide them to the play-offs this season before losing out to East Fife.

A Clyde spokesperson said: “Clyde FC can confirm that Jim Duffy has resigned from his position as first team manager this afternoon. Jim has accepted the offer of becoming manager of Greenock Morton.”

Former Morton manager Ian McCall and Dundee coach Matt Lockwood had stated their interest in the job at the Tail o’ the Bank however Duffy has been selected by club chairman Douglas Rae as the man to lead his side out of League 1.

Duffy said: “Morton are a club I know well and I am excited by the challenge. I have really enjoyed my time at Clyde however I could not turn down the chance to be involved at Greenock.”
