Morton 2-2 Queen of the South: Plucky showing as Queens seek survival

BOTTOM dogs Queens just about kept their hopes of automatic survival alive with a spirited showing in which they twice had to come from behind for a share of the spoils their second-half showing deserved.

Morton started far the brighter and their opener arrived just after the half hour mark, Fouad Bachirou taking advantage of some hugely generous defending to pick his spot behind Lee Robinson.

After the break Queens rang the changes, pitched another forward into the fray and deservedly levelled on the hour, courtesy of a textbook header from Sam Parkin.

If regaining parity delighted Gus MacPherson in the visitors’ dugout, the manner in which his team conceded seconds later will have enraged him, with his static defence allowing Peter MacDonald a free header six yards out.

With a quarter of an hour remaining the points should have been secure, but Bachirou this time ballooned his chance off the top of the bar.

It was was to be a costly blunder because minutes later Parkin again caused Morton problems in the air to set up Danny Carmichael who slid the ball home for what could be a precious point come the season’s end.
