Morton 2 - 0 Cowdenbeath: Morton net double

AFTER an uneventful opening quarter, Morton began to dictate the tempo of the game, with Dougie Imrie and Fouad Bachirou exerting the greatest influence on the play.

Imrie and Joe McKee were both denied by Grant Adam before the goalkeeper undid his previous good work with the game’s first goal.

There seemed to be little danger when Reece Hands collected an Imrie pass and fired in a speculative effort from 30 yards. The ball moved slightly in the air but appeared to catch Adam on his heels and, although he got his left hand to the ball, he could not keep it out.

Cowdenbeath were under the cosh for long spells but had their chances and Kyle Miller will be kicking himself for failing to score after being picked out by Marc McKenzie’s inviting delivery. Instead of bulging the net, he headed wastefully over.

The Blue Brazil paid for that profligacy when Archie Campbell latched on to a through ball to send a rising drive behind Adam from 15 yards.

Tom O’Brien, cautioned for a first-half foul on Kabba-Modou Cham, was dismissed three minutes from time for a second bookable foul on David McNeil.
