Miller in danger of axe after three months in Siberia

ALEX MILLER is facing the sack in Russia, less than three months after being sent to Siberia.

The ex-Scotland No 2 was appointed as the new manager of Russian Second Division side FC Sibir Novosibirsk in January.

Former Aberdeen and Hibs manager Miller – who recently had spells as a manager in Sweden and Japan – was charged with the task of getting the club, who play in Siberia’s main city, back to the Russian Premier League after they were relegated last year.

However, in his five games in charge of the club, they have lost three, drawn one and chalked up just a solitary victory. Reports in Russia have suggested that he will be axed this week after a defeat at home to Ural.

Miller said: “I think we played better and deserved to win, but sometimes in football you do not get what you deserve. I won’t be resigning.

“We dominated the whole game and we will fight to turn a disappointing start around.”

FC Sibir Novosibirsk chairman Stanislav Zhuravskii refused to comment when asked after the game whether the 62-year-old would be fired.

Miller spent nine years at Liverpool as a scout and then as assistant to Gerard Houllier before quitting to take charge at Japanese side JEF United.

An unsuccessful spell in charge of Swedish side AIK Stockholm ended when they were relegated during his stint. Now his time in charge of FC Sibir in Russia’s third biggest city, could be coming to a premature end.
