The dispute centres around the infamous Rangers Retail deal, agreed to by former club chief executive Charles Green, which gives Ashley control of the merchandising arm of the company.

Rangers moved to terminate the joint venture earlier this year, though it has a seven-year notice period. The club have often stated their desire to terminate, or at least renegotiate, the deal.

Ashley is said to be annoyed at the club’s attempts to get themselves out of the agreement before the end of the notice period, which is understood to be the basis for the latest claim.

A hearing has been set for 1 December.
