CELTIC clinched the domestic double last night with a dramatic victory over Hearts in the final of the SFA Youth Cup. Willie McStay's side, already league champions four times running, won the cup for the second consecutive year only after being taken to extra time by their Edinburgh opponents, who had lost a toss of the coin to determine the venue.

A chance which Hearts' Andrew Driver spurned looked like being the most clear-cut opportunity before the interval, until, with just two minutes to play, Celtic's Paul McGowan burst into the box and squared for Theodor Bjarnasson to tap in at the back post.

The home team then withstood a Hearts fightback for much of the second half, and were just beginning to look like lifting the trophy in the regulation 90 minutes when the equaliser came. A cross from Driver was diverted by Celtic's Darren O'Dea into the path of John Neill, who scored from ten yards.

Extra time was just as keenly fought, but it was only as the prospect of penalties began to loom large that the deadlock was broken. Michael McGlinchey prodded home following a corner, and then, in the final minute, Mark Millar added a third with a well-struck shot from the edge of the penalty box.
