McFadden linked to Villa and Wolves

SCOTLAND international forward James McFadden is being tracked by Aston Villa and Wolves.

McFadden, a free agent after coming to the end of his contract at Birmingham City, is closing in on a return to action after being sidelined since last September by a knee injury.

He turned down a move to Aberdeen last week and that has alerted Villa and Wolves, while Celtic also have a long-standing interest in him.

McFadden, 28, is already well known to Villa manager Alex McLeish. He was signed for Birmingham from Everton by McLeish three years ago and also played for him when McLeish was in charge of Scotland.

McFadden, who has recently undergone treatment in America on his knee, is able to sign for a club outside of the transfer window as he is a free agent.
