McCall cools Scotland talk for McFadden

MOTHERWELL manager Stuart McCall last night insisted it is still too early to consider a Scotland recall for James McFadden, despite his scintillating display in a 4-1 win over Hibs at Fir Park.

McFadden completed his first full 90 minutes since rejoining Motherwell as he looks to revive his career after two injury-plagued years. The 29-year-old scored a stunning solo goal in the win which guarantees Motherwell a
top-six SPL finish.

“Everyone will get carried away after that performance by James,” said McCall, who is part of Scotland manager Gordon Strachan’s coaching staff. “But it’s still too early for Scotland. He needs a run of games. He was outstanding tonight and if he shows that kind of form, it’s all he can do.”

McFadden accepted McCall’s assessment, saying: “He says I should be concentrating on my club form right now and that’s sensible. But if I play like that, I’ve got a chance of getting back in.”

Hibs manager Pat Fenlon said: “We were second best all over the park and got what we deserved.”
